Rodney King Riots

1992

Following the acquittal of four police officers in the beating of Rodney King, Los Angeles experiences the largest civil unrest in the nation’s history and Korean American merchants in particular suffer tremendous losses. In response, APALC offers legal assistance as well as basic necessities, such as food, to impacted individuals and businesses, working closely with many volunteers and local organizations and churches. APALC also helps found the Asian Pacific Revolving Loan Fund to help small businesses recover after a major disaster; the fund awards $5 million in loans by 2008.
