Peter Dowdalls is Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA’s bilingual ESL Civics Instructor with the Citizenship Project. He assists underserved lawful permanent residents in the Greater Los Angeles area to learn the necessary English skills and U.S. History/Civics knowledge to obtain U.S. citizenship.
 
Prior to joining Advancing Justice-LA, Peter volunteered as a Political Science instructor at San Francisco State University. He taught undergraduate students while completing his Masters degree. After graduation, he lived and worked in Shanghai, China, teaching English to young children and students with learning disabilities.
 
Back in the U.S., Peter continued teaching ESL to newly immigrated Chinese students and facilitated their placement at partner high schools and universities across the United States.
 
Peter studied Mandarin at San Francisco State University, where he earned his M.A. in Comparative Politics with a focus on areas of conflict in Central and Southeast Asia after graduating with his B.A. in History from St. Mary's College.
 
He is originally from the San Francisco Bay-area and now resides in Long Beach.
