Support the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2012 (HEAA)

APALC’s Health Access Project supports the introduction of the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2012 (“HEAA”), S.2472, into the United States Senate on April 26, 2012. The Health Access Project is committed to address the diverse health care needs of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (Asian Americans and NHPIs) throughout California and urges you and your organizations to support the HEAA.

The HEAA provides the critical guidance to effectively help eliminate health disparities within the Asian American and NHPI communities.  Specifically, this legislation improves and guides federal efforts in the following vital areas:

  • data collection and reporting

  • culturally and linguistically appropriate health care

  • health workforce diversity

  • improvement of health outcomes for women, children and families

  • mental health

  • high impact minority diseases (including hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, cancer and other disease issues)

  • health information technology

  • emboldened accountability and evaluation

  • addressing social determinants of health

The Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) is circulating two versions of a letter of support for the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2012 linked here: 1) a thank you to original co-sponsors, and 2) a request seeking additional cosponsors. Please consider submitting a letter to your representative.

Or, if your organization would like to sign on, please fill out the following short Google Form by close of business, Tuesday, May 29, 2012:
