Interim Asian Language Legal Intake Project (ALLIP) Project Director

Advancing Justice-LA seeks an Interim Project Director to oversee operation of legal helplines that increase access to justice for low-income, limited English speaking immigrants. The Interim Project Director will supervise advocates that conduct in-language legal intakes for all of Advancing Justice - LA’s substantive legal programs, including family law, domestic violence, immigration, employment, and civil rights. The Interim Project Director also will be responsible for expanding services to include government benefits consultations. This position will report to the Direct Services Director.

Community Legal Advocate - Hindi

Farhana Shahid is a Community Legal Advocate at Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA. She provides assistance in searching and securing resources and addressing matters related to family law, immigration, citizenship, domestic violence, employment, and discrimination. She is bilingual in English and Hindi/Urdu.

She has worked at South Asian organizations as a Lead Community Advocate for over 14 years after receiving her Bachelor Degree from Pakistan in Political Science and Associate Degree in Computer Information System from El Camino College Torrance, CA.

Client Case Coordinator

Alexandra Mayugba is the Client Case Coordinator for the Immigration Project at Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles. She joined the team in April 2018 and provides non-legal case management support to immigration clients by connecting them to social services, such as emergency housing, counseling, and medical care.

ESL/Civics Coordinator

Viridiana Tlahuel teaches English as a Second Language (ESL). She obtained B.A. and M.A. degrees in Education from the University of Science, Arts & Technology. She also completed a TESOL and bilingual education certificate program at The Canadian Institute of English in Toronto, Canada. This is her 12th year teaching ESL but she has also worked as Simultaneous/Consecutive Court Interpreter at Los Angeles Immigration court.
