Asian Language Legal Intake Project (ALLIP) Project Director

Position Summary: Advancing Justice-LA seeks a Project Director to oversee the operation of legal helplines that increase access to justice for low-income, limited English speaking immigrants. The Project Director will supervise advocates that conduct in-language legal intakes for all of Advancing Justice - LA’s substantive legal programs, including family law, domestic violence, immigration, employment, and civil rights. The Project Director also will be responsible for expanding services to include government benefits consultations. This position will report to the Direct Services Director.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Supervise and support diverse team of 12 intake staff covering 8 legal helplines;
  • Consult on limited government benefits intakes, with the goal of expanding services to low-income, LEP seniors;
  • Work collaboratively with other programs to develop and streamline centralized intake policies and procedures and improve client services overall;
  • Manage current funding, including tracking progress towards deliverables, drafting grant reports, and communications with funders;
  • Manage language support provided to other Advancing Justice-LA programs and community partners;
  • Coordinate and conduct community education and outreach, including presentations to partner organizations, community presentations, media articles and interviews, and other outreach events
  • Handle relevant administrative responsibilities, including case management, ethics compliance, and contract compliance; and
  • Work with Advancing Justice - LA’s development team and direct services director to explore and pursue new funding opportunities to build on/expand language capacity, and to identify additional resources for client services.
  • Education:
    • J.D. and must be an active member of the California State Bar;
  • Experience
    • Minimum of three years of legal practice in government benefits, preferably with a background in SSI assistance
    • Prior experience working with limited English proficient clients;
    • Prior supervision experience preferred;
    • Fluency in an Asian language a plus; and
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Compensation: DOE. Excellent benefits package includes retirement benefits, medical, dental and vision insurance, among others.
