Census 2020 Statewide Network Manager (Fixed-Term)

Position Summary: Advancing Justice - LA seeks a Census 2020 Statewide Network Manager to lead a statewide network of community organizations dedicated to promoting the participation of AANHPI communities in the 2020 Census. Information drawn from Census 2020 will determine the allocation of Congressional seats to states, the drawing of legislative boundaries as part of the statewide redistricting process, and how trillions of dollars in federal funds are spent. This position is a full-time, temporary position beginning in November, 2019 and ending in October, 2020.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Lead statewide network of AANHPI community-based organizations working on Census 2020 education and outreach;
  • Coordinate and provide support and leadership to subcontractors and subgrantees; 
  • Coordinate network activities, including working with State, regional, local Census staff and community based organizations to develop resources, content and tools for the production and dissemination of materials (i.e., media, community education and outreach, training, and advocacy);
  • Compile and update presentation and training materials and other informational materials, as needed;
  • Deliver presentations and trainings related to network activities to subcontractors, subgrantees, and other stakeholders; 
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Census 2020 stakeholders including the Census Bureau, the State of California Complete Count Committee, city and county governments, foundations, local and statewide community partners, and other statewide collaboratives;
  • Supervise two network staff;
  • Handle media relations in coordination with media staff person
  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional and program management experience in community organizing, civic engagement, or political campaigns.  
  • Experience with coordinating statewide campaigns including community organizing and coalition building, or other non-candidate politics (partisan or issue-based) preferred.
  • Experience managing large projects that require coordinating with subcontractors/subgrantees, government representatives, and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with AANHPI communities, especially Southeast Asian or Pacific Islander;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with staff, media, elected and appointed officials, corporate/business representatives, community members, and especially the general public/community.
  • Experience supervising others;
  • Ability to work with diverse racial and ethnic groups;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision; 
  • Ability to work flexible hours (some evening and weekends);
  • Ability to travel statewide meetings;
  • Access to reliable transportation.
Compensation/Benefits: Salary will be negotiated, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance with retirement plan. Parking provided.
