Interim Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary:
 
Under the direction of the HR Director, the Interim HR Generalist provides Advancing Justice-LA employees human resources support. The Interim HR Generalist troubleshoots issues with benefits, employee data, and other human resources matters and partners with the HR Director to solve more complex human resources matters. The Interim HR Generalist partners with Directors and Managers to recruit candidates, hire and onboard new employees, and off-board departing employees. This position also monitors the office environment to ensure issues are properly raised and communicated to the key stakeholders.  

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Partner with the HR Director and key stakeholders to map critical HR processes for implementation.
  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; helps maintain the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
  • Maintain, audit, and manage the employee files.  
  • Participates in developing HR department goals, objectives and systems. 
  • Helps draft job descriptions.
  • Monitors the performance evaluation program and suggests revisions as necessary. 
  • Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting, administer open enrollment, and communicating benefits information to employees. 
  • Support the HR Director in Labor Relations matters.  
  • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt, nonexempt personnel, and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; help write and place job postings. 
  • Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing. 
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as directed.
  • Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory. 
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed. 
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database. 
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulation
  • Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive HR experience
  • PHR certified preferred or plans to take exam in near future
  • Experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Strong project management abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Adept at building rapport with clients and peers
  • Expertise in HR policies and procedures 
  • Strong knowledge of hiring processes 
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations 
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in a union environment preferred
  • Sound knowledge of California employment and OSHA laws 
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion 
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite
