After extensive advocacy, APALC celebrates the signing of H.R. 9, which renews three key provisions of the federal Voting Rights Act that would have otherwise expired in 2007. Among those provisions are Section 203, which requires states and counties to provide language assistance to voters. APALC provides testimony to Congress, the National Commission on the Voting Rights Act, and state commissions and legislators, on the barriers faced by Asian American and Pacific Islander voters. APALC’s work is cited on the floor of the U.S. Senate and its testimony is included in the Congressional record.
