Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles Proudly Endorses ACA 5 - Opportunity for All Californians

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today the Opportunity for All Coalition announced a campaign to repeal Proposition 209 through the introduction of ACA 5, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles (Advancing Justice-LA) is proud to announce our support and endorsement.

Proposition 209 has prevented many hard-working Californians from having access to opportunities that are created by policies like that of affirmative action, and in doing so continuing a legacy of inequities in communities of color.

Policies like affirmative action help improve the prospects of Americans in their careers and lives. They will help Asian Americans and Pacific Islander communities achieve parity in jobs and opportunities after years of discrimination - which we still see today.

“Students and communities of color continue to be unfairly kept from career and educational opportunities because of their race and gender,” said Stewart Kwoh, founder of Advancing Justice-LA. “We cannot turn a blind eye to that fact, and we cannot turn away from this fight. By repealing Prop 209, we are sending a clear message that our identities are part of who we are and what we bring to the table. They are assets that should not continue to be seen as unlawful.”

Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles will continue to fight against discrimination and to protect diversity and equal opportunity for Asian Americans and all communities of color.
We urge all communities to stand on the side of equity and opportunity for all.
